How soon can I start to learn to drive?
There are two parts to the driving test, the Theory Test and the Practical
Test.
You can start to learn the theory at any age,
but cannot sit the test until you are 17
at the earliest.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN LESSONS:
You must obtain a provisional driving licence, which allows you to legally drive on the roads with a qualified driver over 21.
You can apply up to two months before your 17th birthday. The application form you need is a D1, available from the Post Office. Or if you want you can apply online from the DirectGov website. You will also need a passport size photograph to submit with your application.
The cost of a provisional licence is £50.00 It usually takes three weeks for it to be processed.
- Go for a sight check at an optician if you have any concerns about your vision

"I would thoroughly recommend Campbell's
Driving School to anybody, whether they are a complete novice at driving or
like myself have had previous lessons. I was one of these
people who had been taking driving lessons here and there for a few years but
had never really bonded with an instructor or had the confidence to realise
that I took an 18-hour intensive course with Campbell and he was great! Not only is he an experienced, friendly and helpful driving instructor - but he taught me to find the confidence I lacked behind the wheel." Anna |
